Reykjavík, the world’s northernmost capital!
This is a popular area to visit, because where else can you find Middle Earth, right next to Mars, right next to Alaska? Reykjavík is a city that is small enough that you can walk almost the whole thing in a day, but big enough in that there is plenty to see and do, and some of Iceland’s best natural wonders are within an easy car ride.
While you’re here, go on a whale watching trip, take a trip to the Blue Lagoon geothermal spa, visit the Golden Circle where you can see Geysir, Gulfoss Waterfall and Þingvellir National Park, spend an afternoon on the Nauthólsvík geothermal beach, go to the top of Hallgrímskirkja church, take a ferry to Viðey Island, visit the Old Harbour area and go on a puffin tour, and walk down to the Sun Voyager sculpture!
